Bromine compounds are primarily used in flame retardants (49%), oilfield chemicals (19%), intermediates (15%), and brominated pesticides (mostly methyl bromide) (3%). Because of depleting reserves, distribution and economics, environmental constraints, the price of bromine rises to a great height.

At present, domestic consumption of flame retardants concentrates on electrical & electronics, wire & cable and motor vehicle, whose market share is 46.85%, 20.15% and 14.65% respectively in 2009.
From 2006 to 2009,domestic direct consumption has kept growing with CAGR of 18.84%, and this trend will continue in the next five years, bringing huge investment opportunities in Chinese flame retardant industry.
